Making Lent Real

Dear Catholic Central Families,

As we begin Lent this year, we want to focus on making this holy season—and our faith—real. What does it truly mean to confront our disordered attachments and choose to grow in virtue and grace? What will our choices look like? What graces will we need from God to make those choices? These are real questions that get to the heart of the season of conversion that the Church calls Lent.

Each week of Lent, our school community will hear from Seniors, Kairos leaders, and other faculty and staff members about the various ways they make their faith real. We will share these messages with our broader community via social media. Be on the lookout for inspiring reflections from our students and staff!

Additionally, we will participate in our annual Lenten practices, including:

Prayer
Students will engage in multiple, intentional forms of prayer, including:

  • Daily Morning Examen
  • Daily examination of conscience and Act of Contrition
  • Weekly Mass
  • Stations of the Cross
  • Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament
  • Sacrament of Reconciliation during the Lenten season

Fasting
We will ask students to consider what they can fast from to save a few dollars to donate during Lent. Suggestions include:

  • Skipping a weekly coffee or fast-food trip
  • Forgoing an extra drink from the lunchroom
  • Passing on that gas-station slurpee purchase

We encourage students to think about what they can sacrifice and replace it with prayer and charitable giving for others.

Almsgiving
Students will continue to support an international organization that CC works closely with: Adelante Youth Mission in the Dominican Republic. Catholic Central is proud to send 21 student missionaries and 2 staff members to attend this year’s mission from March 7–14. At the end of Lent, each student will be asked to make a donation to support the missionary efforts of Adelante Youth Mission.

May this Lent lead to a glorious Easter for you and your family!

Peace,
Office of Campus Ministry
